SECURING SAFE STREETS FOR OUR STUDENTS
APUU launched the Safe Passage Initiative to ensure students could travel safely through high-risk neighborhoods. This program quickly reduced school-related incidents and gave parents peace of mind about their children's safety.

BRIDGING SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES
After showing consistent commitment, APUU secured an agreement with local schools to introduce prevention and intervention programs. This allowed direct engagement with students, fostering trust and conflict resolution.

July 2010
FROM OPPONENTS TO PEACEMAKERS
APUU began brokering peace between rival communities with former gang members leading ceasefire efforts. This initiative showed the community that peace was possible from within.

May 2009
THE ART OF INTERVENTION
APUU’s team completed rigorous training to develop essential skills for conflict intervention. This certification set the standard for safe and effective community work.

December 2010
1ST COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS
APUU hosted its first Christmas toy giveaway, backed by city leaders and celebrities. This event strengthened community trust and marked a milestone in APUU’s outreach efforts.

2012
A BETTER L.A. INITIATIVE
APUU joined forces with Pete Carroll’s A Better LA, aligning efforts for peace walks and events across South LA. This partnership amplified their shared vision for safer communities.

2013
BREAKING BARRIERS WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT
APUU facilitated discussions between community members and LAPD to address long-standing conflicts. These talks laid the foundation for ongoing collaboration and mutual understanding.

2014
REBUILDING LIVES, CREATING JOBS
With increased funding, APUU hired individuals with gang histories to serve as community intervention workers. This expansion turned former offenders into mentors and community builders.

2016
EXPANDING OUR REACH ACROSS SOUTH L.A.
APUU formed a diverse team of community ambassadors from various neighborhoods, fostering peace where conflict once thrived. This initiative strengthened bonds across South LA.

2021 & 2022
LAUNCHING A MOVEMENT FOR TRAUMA RECOVERY
With Kevin Orange’s leadership, APUU expanded the Trauma Prevention Initiative to new communities. The program focused on addressing trauma through data-informed outreach.

Fall 2023
HOPE FOR THE UNHOUSED: UCAN PARTNERSHIP
APUU partnered with UCAN to provide resources for the formerly incarcerated and unhoused. This partnership offers food, employment, and substance abuse support to those in need.

Summer 2024
REDEFINING POLICE AND COMMUNITY COLLABORATION
APUU facilitated talks between LAPD’s CSP division and the community to ease tensions at Algin Sutton Park. This effort promotes co-existence and dialogue through ongoing community events.
